Vien breaks seventh SEA Games record in Singapore

Top Vietnamese swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien had fans on their feet on Tuesday night as she swam away with two more gold medals and broke two additional records at the ongoing 28th SEA Games in Singapore.

Vien demonstrated her absolute strength in the women’s 200m butterfly final finishing first with a time of 2:11.12, 3.38 seconds faster than the Singaporean runner-up, Quah Ting Wen. She also smashed the Games record in the event, 2:13.49, set by Singapore’s Tao Li in Vientiane, Laos six years ago.

Over an hour later, Vien went on to compete in the women’s 200m freestyle gold medal match where she continued striking with a best time of 1:59.27 and a new Games records, 1.3 seconds better than the previous one held by Quah Ting Wen.

Vien is currently the best Vietnamese performer in Singapore thus far, securing six gold medals and breaking seven SEA Games records.

Vietnam also had its SEA Games tally boosted with one silver medal by petanque players Ngo Thi Huyen Tran and Tran Thach Lam in the mixed doubles and an additional bronze medal by swimmer Tran Duy Khoi in the 400m individual medley.

As of today, Vietnam temporarily settles for third place in the SEA Games medal standings with 33 gold, 16 silver and 38 bronze medals. Thailand concludes Tuesday competition in second position with 38 golds, while Singapore remains on top with 52 golds.
