Vietnam made a bustling start to the match creating a four-goal first-half advantage over Indonesia with a double by Vo Huy Toan and the remaining two goals scored by Mac Hong Quan and Nguyen Huu Dung.
Huy Toan earned Vietnam a penalty after 12 minutes after his shot touched Hansamu’s hand in the box - Hong Quan did not miss the golden opportunity to put his team ahead with a successful converter.
Toan made it 2-0 for Vietnam nine minutes later before scoring his second goal with a 41st-minute powerful long-range strike, which helped him clear the five-goal tally by Myanmar’s Sithu Aung.
Seconds before half time, Huu Dung dashed into the 16m50 area taking a precise pass from Cong Phuong before producing an unstoppable shot to seal a 4-0 lead for Vietnam.
The second half continued to see absolute domination from the men in red, with constant pressure put on the Indonesian defensive line.
It was not until the 71st minute that Vietnam’s efforts were concretised with the fifth goal by captain Que Ngoc Hai.
Indonesia also created several opportunities to score; however, Vietnam’s effective defence prevented them from nailing even a consolation goal during the remainder of the match.
The commanding 5-0 victory helped Vietnam make off with the overall bronze medal of the 28th SEA Games football tournament. Thailand and Myanmar will meet in a gold-medal match scheduled for tonight.
