The women’s individual category brought together seven players competing in a round robin tournament. Vietnam’s Ho Thi Thanh Hong excelled beyond expectation, ending up in third place overall with eight points (three wins, two draws and one loss) - a very encouraging result for her international debut.

With her last-match victory against Hong, Jia Dan from the US took the silver medal with nine points, two points behind the Chinese gold medalist Wang Linna.

Vietnam’s remaining bronze medals were won in the men’s team by Lai Ly Huynh and Trenh A Sang, who finished 14th and fifth respectively in the men’s individual event.

The competition, sponsored by the World Xiangqi Federation, was organized by the German Xiangqi Association at the University of Applied Languages from August 21 to 26.

Over 60 players from 20 countries contended for medals in five categories - the men's team, men's individual, women's individual and non-Chinese/non-Vietnamese men's and women's individual.
