Both teams kicked off with caution and determination as neither of them had ever won a National Cup title prior to the September 26 match, although Binh Duong and Hanoi T&T have both won the V-League championship several times each.
Hanoi T&T seemed to outperform their opponents in the first minutes of play with a few opportunities to score an opener, however their efforts failed to materialise, which soon made them lose confidence.
Nguyen Van Quyet’s goal was overruled after Hoang Vu Samson was refused a penalty kick when he fell down in Binh Duong’s penalty area in the 12th minute.
Soon after that Hanoi T&T’s defender Nguyen Van Bien made a mistake and lost possession of the ball to Binh Duong’s forward Abass, who took the opportunity to score the first goal of the match.
The home team continued to take advantage of Hanoi T&T’s weakened morale, adding two more goals to the tally from Le Cong Vinh and Nguyen Trong Hoang, before the visitors’ captain Gonzalo narrowed the goal difference in the 62nd minute.
Three minutes later, Hanoi T&T’s defender Duong Thanh Hao was sent off for committing a clear foul on Abass, who was also forced to leave the pitch due to serious injuries.
With a weaker defence line, Hanoi T&T conceded another goal to Binh Duong, which completely dashed their hopes of winning the National Cup title despite Hoang Vu Samson scoring a late goal in the 85th minute.
The decisive 4-2 victory over the Hanoi-based club has helped Binh Duong realise their dream of securing both the top-level V-League and National Cup titles in 2015.
