The photos, depicting the life and people of Truong Sa, were selected for different categories including Landscapes and Seascapes, Children, Fine Arts, and Portraits.

The female photographer also made the finals of two other categories: People, Culture and Daily Life; and Street Photography and Cityscapes for two photographs capturing two public arts projects in Thanh Hoa province and Hanoi.

Thuy said that her participation in the event aimed to convey her aspiration for peace in Truong Sa as well as her hope to promote Vietnam to the world.

Thuy’s photos were among 875 finalist pictures selected from more than 6,800 entries sent by over 1,200 female artists from 51 countries around the world. Her six works will join other finalists’ works to be displayed at an exhibition scheduled for April 2016 in Berlin, Germany.

Nguyen Thu Thuy is known as the creator a number of significant ceramic projects such as the four-kilometre ceramic mosaic mural on the wall of the dyke system in Hanoi, a 2.3x1.9 metre map of Vietnam, a ceramic lotus fountain at Mai Xuan Thuong flower garden in Hanoi, and six ceramic paintings of Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago.

Thuy was awarded the Bui Xuan Phai award – For the Love of Hanoi in 2009 and the title of ‘Outstanding Citizen of the City’ in 2010 for her contributions to the capital city.

The Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Female Photographers is one of many awards hosted by The Gala Awards (TGA), which provides juried contest for professional and amateur photographers from around the world.
