Video conference marks 70th anniversary of National Day
A live video conference, entitled ‘Independence Flag’, was held by the Vietnam Television at the Thang Long Royal Citadel archeological site in Hanoi and Thu Ngu flag tower in Ho Chi Minh City on August 30.

The event was attended by Politburo members - the permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Le Hong Anh and National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong.
The programme opened with a dance themed ‘the Party’s flag’ portraying the patriotic resistance movements of Vietnamese people around the country in the early 20th century.
The live video aimed to help audiences learn more about the revolutionary process and birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam as well as the Vietnamese people’s struggle for national independence and reunification under the leadership of the Party.
During the conference, the audience listened to stories told by historical witnesses and heard reports on important historical events of the country, such as the first appearance of the national flag in the Southern Uprising in 1940, the first National Day at Ba Dinh Square on September 2, 1945 and the days when the national flag was first seen flying high from the flag tower in front of Ngo Mon (Moon Gate) in Hue in 1945.
The highlight of the programme was the process of the 500-square-metre national flag being paraded through the streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee held a ceremony to present Party Membership Badges to 2,626 Party members on the occasion of 70th anniversary of National Day.
Politburo member and Secretary of the City's Party Committee Le Thanh Hai attended the event and praised the significant contributions made by the Party members to the cause of Party building as well as the national construction and defence.
Additionally, the Hanoi Communist Youth Union Central Committee held an exchange programme themed ‘I love my Fatherland’ at the My Dinh National Sport Complex to mark the 70th anniversary of National Day.
More than 12,000 youth union members and students around the city participated in various activities included in the programme such as a contest for young people from traditional trade villages, the voluntary blood donation festival and a festival on revolutionary songs.
An exhibition, featuring 80 photos on the resistance wars for national independence of the Vietnamese people since the foundation of the Communist Party of Vietnam as well as the cause of socialist construction, took place on August 30 in Ho Chi Minh City.
The exhibits also honoured the outstanding achievements of the Ho Chi Minh City over the past 40 years.
