Anh Vien wins three golds at Asian Age Group Championships

Vietnam’s swimming star Nguyen Thi Anh Vien bagged three gold medals on October 2 at the ongoing 8th AASF Age Group Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, earning Vietnam seven gold medals after two days of competition.

In preparation for the tournament, Vien decided to skip three stages of the FINA Swimming World Cup.

The 1996 born swimmer appears to have no rival in the first two days of competition with three gold medals, breaking the national record in the 100m butterfly by clocking in at 1:08, and twice swam to gold in the 200m medley and 200m freestyle events.
 
In addition, Vien also added three silver medals so far to her medal collection in the women’s 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 800m freestyle.
 
Her teammates also earned an additional four golds in the competition thanks to Tran Duy Khoi’s two golds and one each from Huynh Man Dat and promising young swimmer Nguyen Diep Phuong Tram.
 
The four-day event, from October 1-4, features 132 disciplines for both boys and girls in three age divisions - 14 years and under; 15-17 years; and 18 years and above.
 
After the tournament, Vien will fly to the Republic of Korea to participate in the 6th CISM Military World Games from October 7-10, before returning to Vietnam for the 2015 National Swimming Championships, to be held in Da Nang city in mid-October. She will also compete in the sixth round of the FINA Swimming World Cup scheduled for October 28 in Japan.
