Vietnam win first match at AFF Futsal Championship

Vietnam cruised to a commanding 13-nil win over Laos in their Group B opener of the 2015 AFF Futsal Championship in Thailand on October 8.

The match quickly went in Vietnam’s favour after three minutes of play as Le Quoc Nam opened the scoring.

Laos restored the parity four minutes later, which was all the team representing the land of a million elephants could do throughout the game.
 
Vietnam made the remaining time of the match a dreadful nightmare for Lao players. Mai Thanh Dat reclaimed the team’s lead a minute after the equaliser before his teammates scored six consecutive goals to wrap up the first half 8-1 for Vietnam.
 
The second-half scenario remained unchanged with Vietnam maintaining their stormy attacks on the Lao side, forcing Lao to concede five additional goals before the final whistle rang.
 
The resounding 13-1 victory was an extremely convincing start for Coach Bruno Formoso and his players, giving a strong boost to the team’s confidence on their way to achieving the target of advancing to the final round.
 
Next up for Vietnam will be clash with Myanmar on October 10.
 
The 2015 AFF Futsal Championship, the 12th edition of the tournament, is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand from October 8 to 16.
 
Vietnam have been drawn in Group B along with Australia, Laos, Myanmar and the Philippines, while Group A includes Thailand, Timor Leste, Cambodia, Brunei and Malaysia.
 
The ten participants are competing in a group-stage round robin tournament to decide the top-two performers from each group for the semifinal round.As regulated by the Asian Football Confederation, the four best finishers at the 2015 AFF Futsal Championship will automatically qualify for the 2016 AFC Futsal Championship, to be hosted in Uzbekistan from February 10 to 21.
