Vietnam claims third medal at World Wushu Championships

Vietnam won an additional bronze medal on November 16, increasing its tally to one silver and two bronzes at the 13th World Wushu Championships, taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia from November 14 to 18.

Nguyen Manh Quyen of Vietnam finished third in the men’s daoshu event on Monday, behind Vladimir Maksimov of Russia and Seungjae Cho from the Republic of Korea.

Earlier, Duong Thuy Vi grabbed the first two medals for Vietnam, taking bronze in the women’s changquan on November 14 before claiming silver in the qiangshu one day later.

Concluding the third day of competition, Vietnam stood in 14th place with one silver and two bronze medals. China topped the tally with six golds, followed by Indonesia with four golds, one silver and three bronzes, and Hong Kong (China) with three golds, three silvers and one bronze.

The five-day championships bring together over 900 martial artists and officials representing 73 countries and territories around the world.

Participants are competing for sets of medals in the taolu (demonstration) and sanda (combat) for both men and women.

At the previous competition in Malaysia two years ago, Vietnam ended up in fourth place overall with a total of three gold, six silver and three bronze medals.
