Tien Giang celebrates 70th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day
On March 25, Tien Giang Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism held a meeting to celebrates 70th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day (March 27, 1946-2016). Deputy Standing Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Hong Quang, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Commmittee (PPC) Tran Thanh Duc, former officals of the provincial Sport sector through periods, etc… attended this event.

Going through 40 years of founding and development, Tien Giang sports sector has achieved remarkable accomplishments. Up to now, the province has more than 20 modern sport subjects and the nation sport subjects maintained effectively widespread, the number of people practising sport regularly accounted for 30.81 percent of the province's population, and more than 98,000 sport families with over 612 sport clubs.
Physical education work in schools has developed strongly. High achivemant sport has achieved some encouraging result. For examle, Table-tennis team is one of the strongest team of the country and there are many young promising athletes training in the young team, the national team, Badminton team has athletes who get gold medal, silver medal at the National Championships, etc…In 2015, Tien Giang Sport achieved more than 374 medals in national and regional competitions with 14 grandmasters and 16 national level athletes.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People’s Commmittee Tran Thanh Duc praised results of the provincial Sport sector achieved in the past 40 years. Deputy Chairman proposed the provincial Sports sector to continue promoting solidarity and comprehensive effort, being innovative in thought as well as action and in closely collaboration with sectors, all levels in province, gathering the power of officials, coaches, athletes and referees to put province’s sport career to a new height. Besides the attention of the provincial, the provincial sport sector needs to attract resources from socialization to enrich the provincial sport picture.
On this occasion, the PPC presented the Emulation flag of the PPC to the provincial sport sector and certificates of merit to 23 individuals contributed to the career of the provincial sport. In particular, there are 3 individual of the provincial sport sector awarded the Prime Minister’s certificates of merit.
