International marathon dashes along Da Nang's beach
Around 4,000 runners from 35 countries worldwide participated in the fourth Da Nang International Marathon hosted by the central city of Da Nang on August 6.
The one day competition comprised a 42 km Marathon for athletes who want to conquer themselves and push their limits, a 21 km semi-marathon and a 10 km race which were designed for runners who want to explore the beauty of Da Nang, and a 5 km long charity run route.
Vietnamese runners won a gold medal in the women’s 10km category, four silvers and two bronzes at the other three courses.
The event will donate VND 30 million (US$ 1350) to the Da Nang Association of Victims of Agent Orange/dioxin (DAVA) and 10 local impoverished families will receive VND 10 million (US$ 450) each.
The Da Nang International Marathon is the first professional Marathon in Vietnam certified by IAAF-AIMS (International Association of Athletics Federations and Association of International Marathons and Distance Races). The city is also known as home of one of the best race courses in the region.
