The event featured performances of Vietnamese traditional dances and songs sung in Japanese. Hoang Thi Minh Ha, wife of the Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan, introduced the cuisine of her home country to attendees and guided them on how to use all their senses to enjoy Vietnamese dishes.
Speaking at the show, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Quoc Cuong recalled the growth of Vietnam from a backward farming nation to a key market in the region and the second-biggest rice exporter in the world.
He hoped the event would help Japanese understand more about Vietnam and enhance the two countries’ friendship.
Kahoru Odaka from Saitama Prefecture said it was an exciting and meaningful cultural exchange, especially the introduction of Vietnamese foods and how to enjoy them.
The evening was rounded off with participants singing the song Hana-wa Saku (“Flowers Will Bloom”), the theme song of an NHK project supporting victims of the historic 2011 tsunami disaster in Japan and local recovery efforts.
