Localities pay tribute to founders of the nation

A range of activities are being held in localities across the nation on April 6 (the 10th day of the third lunar month) to commemorate the death anniversary of Hung Kings – the legendary founders of the nation.

Yesterday, President Tran Dai Quang joined local leaders and people to attend a grand ceremony held in the northern midland province of Phu Tho to pay tribute to Hung Kings.

Following the incense-offering ceremony, millions of Vietnamese people across the country and abroad paid homage to the nation founders at the temple complex.

According to the organisers, some 8 million domestic and foreign visitors flocked to the Hung Kings Temple in Phu Tho.

The same day, provinces and cities nationwide held a wide range of activities in commemoration of the Hung Kings.

A solemn ceremony was held yesterday at the memorial site dedicated to the Hung Kings at the Park of National History and Ethnic Culture in Ho Chi Minh City.

After the opening ceremony, local leaders and people offered incense, flowers and fruits to the national founders and other predecessors who have constructed and protected the country.

The event, taking place between April 5 and 6, features various activities, including camping event, folk games, tea and calligraphy festivals, and traditional martial arts and cultural performances.

At Au Lac Temple in the Prenn Waterfall Resort, Da Lat City, Lam Dong Province, thousands of people and tourists attended a memorial ceremony for the Hung Kings on April 6.

In his opening speech, President of Lam Dong Province People's Committee Doan Van Viet recalled the Hung King's work of building and defending the country, while urging generations in Lam Dong to strive for local and the national development.

The same day, the 2017 Vac Village Festival opened at the Vac archaeological site in Nghia Hoa Commune, Thai Hoa Town, the central province of Nghe An, with the participation of thousands of local people and visitors. Vac Village is associated with many vestiges of the national construction period under the Hung Kings.

The same ceremonies paying tribute to the Hung Kings was also held on Thursday in Vinh City of Nghe An Province, Hong Linh Town in Ha Tinh Province and in Tan Phu Commune in the southernmost Ca Mau Province’s Thoi Binh District.

The worshipping rituals of the Hung Kings are closely related to the ancestral worship traditions of most Vietnamese families, an important part of people's spiritual life. It was recognised as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2012.
