Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the VOC in the 2011-2016 tenure Hoang Tuan Anh reviewed its past activities, including hosting the fifth Asian Beach Games and devising the plan for hosting the Southeast Asian Games 2021. The committee also played an active role in popularizing the campaign “All people take exercise following the great Uncle Ho’s example”.
Together with the General Department of Sports and Physical Training, national sports associations and federations, relevant departments and localities, the VOC helped the Vietnamese sports team compete in 23 international sports tournaments, during which they won 1,682 golds, 1,447 silvers and 1,490 bronzes.
The VOC was also chosen as one of the nine outstanding national Olympic committees by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) for the ANOC Breakthrough Award 2016.
The Congress elected an 81-strong executive board led by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien.
In his speech, Thien pledged to widely spread sport movements nationwide, especially among students and armed forces and extend relations with foreign Olympic movements and international sports organisations, among other tasks.
