Vietnamese wins gold at Asian weightlifting champs
Tran Le Quoc Toan brought home a gold medal from the Senior Asian Weightlifting Championships, currently underway in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.

Toan participated in the men’s 56kg category and lifted 124kg in the snatch, which was enough to finish at the top of the podium.
The Vietnamese then came third in the jerk & clean category with a lift of 147kg.
His result in total was 271kg and he won the second bronze medal.
Hours later, Trinh Van Vinh won two silvers and one bronze in the men’s 62kg class.
Vinh finished second in the jerk & clean category (167kg), with a total lift of 299kg. He was third in the snatch event, lifting 132kg.
His result was 17kg better than what he did at this tournament last year.
On the women’s side, Vietnam bagged three silvers and one bronze, all in the 48kg class.
Vuong Thi Huyen bagged the first position in the snatch event with an 83kg lift. Her teammate Nguyen Thi Thuy earned the bronze medal, lifting 78kg.
Huyen was, however, unsuccessful in the jerk & clean category, failing in all three attempts of 94kg and was ranked at the bottom.
Thuy, meanwhile, performed well, lifting 105kg. In total, she lifted 183kg and stood in second place.
Sukcharoen Thunya of Thailand was the winner, bagging all three gold medals at the event.
The continental championship kicked off on April 21 and will wrap up on April 29.
