The International Yoga Day 2017 celebrated
On June 21, the provincial People's Committee coordinated with the My Tho Sport Center to celebrate the International Day of Yoga in 2017. Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Duc, Consulate General of India in Ho Chi Minh city Smita Pant, etc… and 200 athletes from the Provincial Yoga Club attended this event.
Yoga is a 5,000-year-old physical, mental and spiritual practice originating in India, which aims to transform both body and mind. On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga.
The declaration came after the call for the adoption of June 21 as International Day of Yoga by Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014.
The event is part of activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-India bilateral diplomatic ties (January 7, 1972 - 2017) and ten years of the strategic partnership (2007 - 2017).
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Tran Thanh Duc emphasized that with the active participation of trainers, athletes and related agencies, in the coming time, the movement of exercising Yoga in the province will continue to develop better. In the coming time, the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism needs continue to pay attention and promote the the movement of exercising Yoga in the province. This is one of the sports associated with the work to improve people's material and spiritual life to link with the movement "All people practice sports."
