The promotion came as a result of Vietnam’s brilliant performance at the 2018 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers last April.

The team finished atop Group D with 12 points after four victories, claiming the group’s solitary ticket to the final round of the Asian Cup in Jordan next year.

In Asia, Vietnam remained its seventh place, behind Japan (world no. 6), Australia (world no. 7), the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (world no. 10), China (world no. 14), the Republic of Korea (world no. 16) and Thailand (world no. 29).

The top ten rankings witnessed the United States reclaim the no. 1 place from Germany thanks to a seven-point advantage.

The next FIFA women’s world rankings for the third quarter will be published on September 1.

At present, members of the Vietnamese women’s team are gathering in Cam Pha city, Quang Ninh province for a training course in preparation for the upcoming 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia this August.

After the SEA Game campaign, the team will focus on training for the 2018 Asian Cup finals, which will bring together eight teams, including hosts and Group A winners Jordan, 2014 champions Japan, 2014 runners-up Australia, 2014 third-placed team China, Group A runners-up Philippines, Group B winners Republic of Korea, Group C winner Thailand and Group D winner Vietnam.

The top five teams in Jordan next year will qualify for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
