Exhibition pays tribute to wounded and fallen soldiers

A variety of photos, artifacts and documents highlighting the care for wounded and fallen soldiers and revolutionary contributors will be showcased at an exhibition from July 25-27 at the Vietnam Exhibition Centre for Culture and Arts (VECCA) in Hanoi.

The exhibition, which will be divided into four parts, is a meaningful political and social event to mark the 70th anniversary of Wounded and Fallen Soldiers (July 27, 1947 – 2017).

The first part will feature photos, artifacts and documents on the attention paid by Party and State leaders, particularly President Ho Chi Minh, to caring for wounded and fallen soldiers. The Party’s guidelines and State’s policies and decrees on wounded and fallen soldiers and revolutionary contributors will also be displayed at the exhibition.

In the second area, photos, figures and quotations will highlight the achievements in care for wounded soldiers, heroic martyrs and revolutionary contributors over the past 70 years, including building and effectively implementing policies and movements, as well as searching for, collecting and repatriating a large number of martyrs' remains, and building and restoring martyr’s cemeteries and memorial monuments around the country.

Notably, visitors can learn more about the wide spread of the ‘showing gratitude’ movements among the whole society through the exhibits at the third part, featuring the participation of the Vietnam Military History Museum, the Vietnam People's Public Security Museum, the Hanoi municipal Department of Culture and Sports and Thai Nguyen provincial People’s Committee.

On display are also photos, documents and objects depicting the silent sacrifices of heroic Vietnamese mothers to the nation’s revolutionary cause, letters written by soldiers during the wartime, and outstanding literary and arts work that were selected from the writing competition on revolutionary contributors launched by the Vietnam Writers’ Association.

The fourth part will be arranged to introduce products made by wounded soldiers, veterans and policy beneficiary families as well as 30 statues and 50 fine artworks by the People's Armed Force Heroes Le Duy Ung and Pham Viet Hong Lam.

Speaking at the press conference for the exhibition, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Vuong Duy Bien emphasised that the exhibition aims to honour and pay tribute to heroic martyrs, sick and wounded soldiers and revolutionary contributors who have sacrificed their lives to protect the country’s independence and freedom.

The event will be also an opportunity to widely communicate the Party’s guidelines and State’s policies on wounded and fallen soldiers among the community as well as the meaning of the Wounded and Fallen Soldiers’ Day, he added.

According to the Deputy Director of VECCA, Bui Quang Phung, the exhibition will contribute to educating younger generations on the patriotism, revolutionary heroism and national pride among people from all walks of life.

Through the event, the organising board also hopes to call for more support from all potential resources to improve both the material and spiritual lives for revolutionary contributor and policy beneficiaries.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, an exchange programme themed ‘Letters during wartime in Vietnam’ and unique arts programmes will be held. In addition, documentary films and reports on the resistance wars in Vietnam will be screened over the three days.
