SEA Games 29: Vietnam at 3rd place on August 29
Vietnam remained at third place on the medal tally at the end of the penultimate day of the ongoing 29th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 29.
The country won 58 gold, 50 silver and 59 bronze medals.

August 29 could be a “golden day” for the Vietnamese Pencak Silat team, when Vietnamese athletes were presented at a range of final matches and brought home three gold medals.
Pencak silat martial artist Pham Thi Tuoi earned Vietnam’s first gold medal of Tuesday as she defeated Zyawani of Singapore 5-0 in their tanding (combat) match of the women’s 50kg event.
Nguyen Duy Tuyen beat Nur Alfian Juma’en of Singapore 5-0 in another tanding match of the men’s 75-80kg event, while Nguyen Van Tri also defeated Singaporean rival Muhammad Shakir 5-0 to pocket another gold medal in the men’s tanding 90kg event.
Pencak Silat team also earned seven additional silvers as of today.
On the same day, weightlifter Pham Tuan Anh earned a bronze medal in the men’s 69kg after lifting 306kg in total. His teammate Nguyen Hong Ngoc finished second with an overall 307kg lift in the final match of the men’s under 77kg event, adding another silver medal to Vietnam’s medal tally.
Vietnamese taekwondo artist Nguyen Van Duy earned a silver medal after losing to his Indonesian rival Ibramin Zarman 12-26 in the final match in the men’s 63kg event.
Meanwhile, divers Vu Anh Duy and Ngo Phuong Mai completed the mixed synchronised 3m springboard event with 234.45 points, winning a bronze medal.
On the medal table, hosts Malaysia are still on top with 140 gold, 91 silver and 84 bronze medals, while the figures for runner-up Thailand are 70, 86 and 87, respectively.
The 29th SEA Game’s official closing ceremony will be held late Wednesday.
