Swimmer Anh Vien wins second gold medal at AIMAG 2017
Nguyen Thi Anh Vien, the “golden girl” of Vietnamese swimming, continued her exceptional performance at the ongoing fifth Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG 2017) in Turkmenistan, by claiming the women’s individual 100m medley title, on September 25.

After scoring the best time of 1:01.68 in the preliminary round, Vien went on to excel in the final competition, producing a supreme finish with a time of 1:00.68 and breaking the previous record of 1:01.24, set by Chinese swimmer Yanxin Zhou in 2013.
Zhang Chenyao of China finished in second place with a time of 1:00.91, whilst another Chinese competitior, Qian Xinan, settled for third place with 1:01.77.
This is the second individual gold medal secured by Anh Vien at AIMAG 2017, and also the second time she has broken a Games record in this year’s event, following her success in her favourite 200m medley category.
On the night of September 25, Vietnamese dancers Nguyen Trung Kien and Pham Hong Anh brought home another gold medal for the country after winning the Salsa event with 32.25 points.
As of Monday night, Vietnam temporarily stood in eighth position in the AIMAG standings, with 11 gold, 7 silver and 17 bronze, medals.
Vietnam’s other titles were secured by weightlifters Thach Kim Tuan and Trinh Van Vinh, long jumper Nguyen Tien Trong, Kurash fighter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Muay fighter Bui Yen Ly, the women’s Taekwondo Poomsae team, cueist Nguyen Quoc Nguyen and chess star Le Quang Liem.
