The athletes are competing in both the kata (performance) and kumite (combat) categories for individuals and team events in the three age groups of 14-15, 16-17 and 18-22.
The four-day championship is co-hosted by the General Department of Sports and Physical Training and the Da Nang city Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The tournament aims to examine and review the training quality of the karate coaches and athletes.
It also offers a chance for training boards to seek promising faces for their teams in preparation for forthcoming sporting events, such as the 18th Asian Games (ASIAD) this year and the 30th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 30) in 2019.
