Inspired by a 4-3 victory over Myanmar in the group stage, coach Mai Duc Chung’s side entered the match with great confidence and strong determination to win in order to avoid an empty-handed tournament.
The “yellow stars” set the pace of the match from first whistle, putting constant pressure on the opposition’s goal.
Popular striker Tuyet Dung put Vietnam in front after just 10 minutes thanks to an assist from teammate Hoang Quynh.
After the unexpected goal, Myanmar intensified their attacks as they sought an equaliser. However, their offensive waves were not cunning enough to break through Vietnam’s solid defence.
Despite creating a multitude of opportunities to score, it was not until the 69th minute that Mai Duc Chung’s side could double their advantage, as Nguyen Thi Van produced an impressive piece of skill before firing a shot into the far corner to beat the Myanmar goalkeeper.
One minute later, Hai Yen put the game to bed by making it 3-0 for the Vietnamese side.
Myanmar missed the chance to pull back a consolation goal as their 77th-minute indirect freekick from seven metres failed to defeat Vietnamese goalie Khong Thi Hang.
The 3-0 score remained unchanged to the final whistle, which also meant that Vietnam finished the tournament in third place.
In the final match, Thailand came from two goals down to beat U20 Australia 3-2 and lift the overall trophy.
