Van Duc played a key role in Vietnam’s 2-1 win over the Philippines in the away match on December 2.
"His enterprise down the wing gave the Philippines’ makeshift right-back Adam Tull all sorts of problems, and he also showed intelligence beyond his years with a perfectly-timed run in between two defenders to race through and score what proved to be the winner," the website said.
Fox Sports Asia also said that his movement was brilliant throughout the match as he helped to create space up top for the Golden Dragons.
The 22-year-old player has scored two goals in the AFF Suzuki Cup 2018.
The rest of the top five are midfielder Syamer Kutty Abba of Malaysia, defender Mika Chunuonsee of Thailand, forward Phil Younghusband of the Philippines and coach Tan Cheng Hoe of Malaysia.
