Ho Chi Minh City inaugurates Bach Dang Wharf and Me Linh Park renovation project
ABO/NDO - The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction held a ceremony on March 17 to inaugurate a project renovating the Bach Dang Wharf and Me Linh Park in District 1.
After the renovation, the 1.6-hectare-wide Bach Dang Wharf now includes 8,700 square metres of walkways, a playground paved with volcano granite and 7,000 square metres of green spaces overlooking the Saigon River.
The wharf is now equipped with an automatic sprinkler system and a lighting system to enhance the landscape at night.

The adjacent Me Linh Park is also revamped, the highlight being the renovation of the statue of Tran Hung Dao, a celebrated 13th-century general who led Vietnam to victories over the Mongol invasions.
Due to the impacts of weather, the statue was damaged in many parts. Before proceeding with the repair work, the city conducted a thorough study and consulted various specialised agencies and top experts.
During the renovation, the statue body had its outer mortar layer removed to fill in the concrete cracks, applying a waterproof layer and covering with a new mortar layer and reliefs.
The park around the statue, covering 3,300 square metres, also underwent a makeover, planting more trees and installing a new lighting system.
Notably the original incense burner in front of the Tran Hung Dao statue was reinstalled after a three year stay at a temple dedicated to the general.
