Khmer Folk Song Festival of Mekong River Delta region wrapped up

ABO/NDO – The second Khmer Folk Song Festival of Mekong River Delta region officially wrapped up at a ceremony held by Soc Trang Provincial Radio and Television on April 4.

The festival attracted nearly 200 contestants featuring 60 performances of Khmer folk songs. The songs praised the new-style hamlets and rural areas and the hearts of Khmer people, as well as highlighted their respect and love for President Ho Chi Minh, the Party, State, patriotism and great national unity.

The festival offered an opportunity for amateur artisans, actors and actresses of Khmer ethnic minority people in the southern region to meet and show off their skills.

The event was expected to encourage and inspire the passion for folk songs among the Khmer community.
At the ceremony, contestant Thach Kenh from Tra Vinh Province was honoured with the first prize worth 30 million VND. Meanwhile, the second prize went to Son Minh Thu (from Tra Vinh Province) and two joint third prizes were awarded to Chao Phep and duet duo La Hoang Vinh and Son Thi Dieu (from Soc Trang).

In addition, the organising board presented ten consolation prizes and five sub prizes including: the youngest and oldest artists, impressive orchestra and impressive dance group...

The second Khmer Folk Song Festival of Mekong River Delta took place from April 6-8, on the occasion of the traditional Chol Chnam Thmay Festival, the biggest festival of the Khmer group.
