Festival introduces 15 UNESCO-recognised intangible cultural heritages

ABO/NDO- Artisans from 13 cities and provinces nationwide, will perform 15 UNESCO-recognised cultural heritage genres to the public, during a festival which will take place in Viet Tri City, Phu Tho province, from April 21 to 24.

The 13 localities include Hanoi, Bac Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Nam, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ninh Thuan, and Dak Lak.

They will bring to the stage 15 heritages, including the Hue royal court music, Quan ho (love duet) folk songs, space of gong culture, Xoan singing, Then singing, and the art of pottery making of Cham ethnic people, among others.

At a press conference held in Hanoi on April 13, to introduce the festival, Vice Chairman of Phu Tho Provincial People’s Committee Ho Dai Dung said, that the artisans from the host province will deliver traditional Xoan singing performances, and demonstrate the making of ‘banh chung’ (square glutinous rice cake) and ‘banh day’ (round glutinous rice cake).

The province will also stage an exhibition displaying photos, objects, and video clips, on the worship of Hung Kings in Phu Tho, and Xoan singing, as well as tourist products and typical products of the locality’s ‘One Commune, One Product’ programme.

Within the framework of the festival, a ceremony to celebrate the 20th anniversary of UNESCO's 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, will be organised on April 21, at Hung Vuong Square.

A conference on promoting cultural heritages in tourism development will be held on the occasion, providing a venue for scientists, scholars and managers, to discuss the role of cultural heritage in sustainable tourism development.
