Cultural night enhances friendship between Indian and Vietnamese people

ABO/NDO- The India-Soc Trang Cultural Night was held in Soc Trang on April 14, as part of the ongoing Namaste Vietnam Festival.

The night brought together artists and performers from the Indian Vocal Group – Qawwali and Khmer Art Troupe and Cultural Centre of Soc Trang province.

They entertained the audience with performances of Khmer ethnic musical instruments, excerpts of Du Ke - a style of musical theatre created by Khmer people, ‘Don ca tai tu’ – folk music in southern Vietnam, as well as songs and dances, imbued with Indian cultural identity.

Speaking at the event, Vice Chairwoman of the provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc, said Soc Trang and India have developed strong cooperation in many areas, particularly cultural exchanges.

Many events have been held annually in the province such as the Yoga International Day and Indian film week, helping to advertise the Indian culture to the local people.

Soc Trang is one of three Southern provinces selected to host the Namaste Vietnam Festival, which is being organised by the Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, from August 12 to 20.

Themed ‘People unite, warm friendship’, the festival aims to increase cultural understanding, and enhance solidarity and friendship between Indian and Vietnamese people, thus contributing the enhancing the cooperation between the two countries.
