President attends Tuyen Quang Mid-Autumn Festival

ABO/NDO- President Vo Van Thuong joined residents, children and visitors in the Tuyen Quang Mid-Autumn Festival, which took place on September 23 in the northern province of Tuyen Quang.

It was the first time that the festival had been held on a national level, with the participation of seven Vietnamese provinces, as well as the Lao province of Xiangkhouang and the Republic of Korea’s Anseong City.

Tuyen Quang is working to make its mid-autumn festival become a national and international tourism product in the coming years.

The festival originated in 2004 with a movement by residents in Tuyen Quang City to create jumbo-sized lanterns for a procession on the mid-autumn night.

It later became the province’s distinctive festival on the mid-autumn occasion each year.

After nearly 20 years of being created, maintained and developed by the people, the Tuyen Quang Mid-Autumn Festival has set several Vietnam Guinness records for its gigantic lanterns.

Speaking at the event, Head of the Central Economic Commission Tran Tuan Anh extended his best wishes to the children, hoping that they will score better academic results and have an enjoyable mid-autumn night.

The Tuyen Quang Mid-Autumn Festival featured an electric performance show, which culminated with a procession of hundreds of giant colourful lanterns in the shapes of animals and characters of fairy tales.
The procession also included models from Xiangkhouang and Anseong.
