ABO/NDO- The Da Nang City Fine Arts Museum will hold a ceremony on November 1 to unveil a space dedicate to renowned French-Vietnamese artist Le Ba Dang (1921-2015).

The space will introduce to the public 38 objects and 113 documents, including paintings, sculptures, and books by Le Ba Dang, who was ranked as one of the most famous painters in the world by Cambridge University in 1992.

Le Ba Dang was born and grew up in Bich La Dong Village, Trieu Phong District, Quang Tri Province. He left Vietnam at the age of 18 before studying at the Toulouse School of Fine Arts (Ecole des Baux-Arts Toulouse) from 1942 to 1948.

He had his first one-man show in Paris in 1950 and gained prominence throughout Europe over the next thirty years, receiving several international prestigious awards and medals, such as the “Artist with great talent and humanity” award by the US’s International Institute of Saint Louis in 1989, the “Arts and Cultural Medal” in 1994 by the French State, and the “Honouring the Vietnam Nation” title in 2005.

In 1968, Le Ba Dang and many other renowned painters like Picasso, Matta and Pigion signed the petition for “A day of intellectuals for Vietnam” in Paris to call for the end of the Vietnam War.
