ABO/NDO- With nearly 200 images and archival documents of prominent artists and writers, the exhibition of personal provenance documents not only demonstrates the artistic labour process of the authors but also reflects the spiritual life and social history of the country.

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the National Archives Centre III, a seminar and an exhibition on personal provenance documents were held in Ha Noi on May 21.

Speaking at the event, Ms Tran Viet Hoa, Director of the National Archives Centre III, stated that the National Archives Centre III is a public service unit under the State Records and Archives Department of Viet Nam (Ministry of Home Affairs) which is responsible for the collection, arrangement, preservation, and exploitation of nationally significant archival documents since the August Revolution of 1945. The activity of collecting personal, family, and lineage documents has been identified as one of the centre’s key tasks.
Over the course of its 30-year development, the work of collecting and acquiring personal provenance documents at the Centre has achieved certain results.

At present, the centre manages more than 200 archival fonds of personal, family, and lineage origin, these are documents formed during the lives and creative activities of individuals, such as: biographies, certificates, letters, notebooks, official documents, drafts of works, and scientific research papers.

According to Tran Viet Hoa, these are valuable sources of documentation, vividly and diversely reflecting the material and spiritual life of the people, contributing to offering authentic perspectives on social development as well as on the portraits and lives of outstanding individuals, families, and lineages in Viet Nam.

These documents also hold special value in researching the history of cultural, artistic, scientific, and diplomatic activities, as well as the lives, contributions, and works of the nation’s prominent individuals.

The director of the National Archives Centre III also affirmed that documents and memorabilia of personal origin, when entrusted to the centre for preservation, will have their lifespan extended and increase the public’s opportunity to access and learn about these documents.

The process of creation and preservation of the works and achievements of individuals is practically illustrated through the exhibition of personal provenance documents.

Through these materials, viewers not only appreciate the talent and creativity of each individual but also perceive the spiritual life and social history of the country, and the profound humanistic values cultivated over the long-standing cultural history of the Vietnamese people in various aspects.

Also at the event, a seminar on personal provenance documents took place with the participation of speakers who are individuals and representatives of individuals and families who have donated documents to the centre, as well as delegates from archival agencies and cultural management bodies.
