Ho Chi Minh City hosts a variety of events to celebrate International Museum Day

ABO/NDO- According to the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City, a wide range of exhibitions will be held at museums across the city to celebrate International Museum Day (May 18) and to commemorate the 135th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2025).

Specifically, the Ho Chi Minh Museum – Ho Chi Minh City branch will host a thematic exhibition titled “The South forever grateful to Uncle Ho” at its own premises as well as in Nghe An; and a mobile exhibition titled “Pride in the city named after Uncle Ho – Ho Chi Minh” at the University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology.

The Ton Duc Thang Museum will showcase the themed exhibition “Ba Son – A timeline” and will collaborate with An Giang Provincial Museum to organise the exhibition “Uncle Ton – The journey from 1945 to 1975” in An Giang.

The museum is also working with Ton Duc Thang University, Cao Thang Technical College, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Culture to launch a short film contest themed “Ton Duc Thang Museum – A new look”, in which participants are to share interesting stories about Uncle Ton or their experiences visiting the museum.

Additionally, the museum is organising interactive activities such as “Check-in at the Museum – Exciting gifts await” and “Discovering museums – Endless fun”.

In celebration of International Museum Day, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum of History, in cooperation with the City Museum, the Fine Arts Museum, and private collectors, is presenting a special exhibition titled “National treasures – Masterpieces of heritage in Ho Chi Minh City” and hosting a photo exhibition titled “President Ho Chi Minh – Life and revolutionary career”.

The Ho Chi Minh City Museum will also present the themed exhibition “Following in Uncle Ho’s footsteps through stamp and postcard collections”, keep open the ongoing displays “The Huynh Phuong Dong journey” and “Letters from the resistance”, and organise mobile exhibitions such as “Hoang Sa, Truong Sa – Viet Nam’s Sea and Islands” and “Nationally recognised architectural monuments in Ho Chi Minh City” at schools across city districts.

Meanwhile, the War Remnants Museum will host a seminar themed “Compiling standards for museum exhibitions” and, in collaboration with the Southern Youth Liaison Committee, will reconstruct the three-compartment secret bunker — a former meeting place of Zone I’s Party Committee (Go Vap District) and Commando Team 67B which served as a shelter for the secretary and a site for printing, storing documents and weapons during 1965–1968.

The Southern Women’s Museum will continue with its exhibition “A 40-year journey – Stories from artefacts” and is working with the Multimedia Communications Faculty of FPT University to launch a social media campaign aimed at enhancing the museum’s image across its communication platforms.

The Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Museum, in collaboration with the Museum of History, is also showcasing the special exhibition “National Treasures – Masterpieces of Heritage in Ho Chi Minh City” at the Museum of History. It is also hosting an exhibition and seminar “Telling stories after reunification day”, with the participation of the Liberation Painting Section, and experimenting with virtual reality (VR) and AI animation in two galleries displaying national treasures.

According to the Department of Culture and Sports, to mark International Museum Day, museums in Ho Chi Minh City are promoting activities with banners and across digital platforms such as fan pages, museum websites, and LED screens. Museums are also focusing on improving curatorial standards and modernising exhibitions by integrating digital technology to attract and engage visitors.

Notably, on May 18, the Ho Chi Minh City Museum and the Fine Arts Museum will offer free entry to all visitors. In addition, on May 19, admission will be free for all city residents visiting the museums.
