Viet Nam claims three golds at 2025 Asian karate championships
ABO/NDO- The Vietnamese karate team delivered a strong showing at the 2025 Asian Karate Championships in Uzbekistan, securing three gold medals and one bronze, and finishing third overall in the medal tally.
Notably, Hoang Thi My Tam claimed gold in the women’s individual kumite 55kg category after a decisive 5-0 victory over Iran’s Saadati Fateme in the final.

Tam advanced through the earlier rounds with wins over competitors from Nepal, Japan, and China.
Viet Nam also earned a gold medal in the women's team kata event, marking a return to the top podium after a decade.
The team, comprising Bui Ngoc Nhi, Hoang Thi Thu Uyen, Nguyen Ngoc Tram, and Nguyen Thi Phuong, edged out China in the final with a combined score of 42.1 points, compared to their opponent’s 41.7. The third gold came in the women's team kumite event, where Viet Nam defeated Kazakhstan 2-0 in the final.
Additionally, Nguyen Ngoc Tram contributed a bronze in women’s individual kata.
Head coach Duong Hoang Long praised the team’s efforts, describing the results as a reflection of the athletes' dedication and determination.
Kazakhstan topped the medal table with four golds, followed by Japan. Viet Nam placed third overall.
