"Viet Nam in Me" writing contest honours Vietnamese culture

ABO/NDO- The closing ceremony of the “Viet Nam in Me” writing contest took place at the World Mall Shopping Centre in Budapest on May 4, as an activit y to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Hungary.

The ceremony was attended by Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Bui Le Thai, representatives of the Vietnamese Association in Hungary and the Budapest Vietnamese Language Centre, along with teachers, parents and a large number of Vietnamese students.

The contest, with support from the Embassy of Viet Nam in Hungary, aimed to provide a meaningful platform for young Vietnamese living in Hungary to explore and connect more deeply with their homeland. It also encouraged the expression of love for the country, national pride, and a strong attachment to the Vietnamese language and cultural identity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Bui Le Thai emphasised that the contest not only evoked affection for the homeland but also played a vital role in preserving and promoting Vietnamese cultural identity within the Vietnamese community in Hungary.

The ambassador expressed thanks to the Vietnamese Association in Hungary for its efforts in connecting the community, as well as to the Budapest Vietnamese Language Centre and its dedicated teaching staff for their continued commitment to instilling a love for the Vietnamese language and culture among the younger generation.

The ambassador also paid special tribute to parents for their unwavering support and encouragement of their children’s participation in the contest, and praised the students for expressing their patriotism, national pride and creativity through their works.

“I believe each essay reflects unique memories, emotions and stories relating to the homeland, family and community,” he noted.

“Viet Nam in Me” is regarded as a meaningful activity of the Vietnamese community in Hungary, contributing to the preservation of the Vietnamese language, bridging generations, and affirming the cultural identity of Vietnamese people living abroad.

Ambassador Bui Le Thai expressed his hope that the contest would be maintained in the coming years, thus continuing to inspire creativity and nurture a sense of origin and cultural pride among young Vietnamese in Hungary.
