Sketch exhibition "Battlefield Memories of Zone V" opens in Da Nang
ABO/NDO- The Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the sketch exhibition “Battlefield Memories of Zone V” at the Monument of the Vietnamese Heroic Mother in Quang Phu Ward, Da Nang City on July 16 morning to commemorate the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day (July 27, 1947– July 27, 2025).
The event aims to promote the museum’s role in communicating and educating historical and cultural traditions, fostering community connection and expressing deep gratitude for the immense contributions and sacrifices of heroes and martyrs in the national liberation struggle.
The exhibition, taking place from July 16 to August 10, introduces 78 sketches of martyr - painter Ha Xuan Phong, late painter Nguyen Duc Hanh, and several painters who fought in the battlefields of Zone V.

The sketches at the exhibition are simple but contain a whole sky of memories of a time of war. They document the harsh but heroic realities of life on the battlefield; vivid pages of history through drawings, expressing the heroic and indomitable fighting spirit, fierce patriotism, desire for peace and optimism of the nation.
Apart from introducing works of art with historical and artistic value, the exhibition also creates opportunities for viewers to approach and learn more about the visual arts in sketching.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Thi Hoi An, Deputy Director of the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, shared that through 78 sketches by artists who directly fought in the battlefields of the Zone V, especially the works by martyr–painter Ha Xuan Phong and late painter Nguyen Duc Hanh.
“Each sketch is like a fragment of memory, a slice of history, marking true moments of life on the battlefield, where patriotism, courage, and the desire for peace are presented vividly, movingly, and humanely,” Nguyen Thi Hoi An emphasised.
On this occasion, “Battlefield Memories of Zone V” is also specially displayed at the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum in Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang City.
