Speaking at the event, Mr. Katsuyoshi Soma - CVN General Director said: “Through this scholarship project, Canon Vietnam Co.,Ltd expresses our special concern about current education and training situation in the nation. By supporting Vietnamese students who have poor living conditions but excellent academic results, they are now able to overcome their challenges in life, concentrate on studying then achieve their dreams as well as build up a beautiful world”.
The scholarships are very first part of a larger VND4.8 billion scholarship program (between 2014-2020) for 90 outstanding high school students and 150 university students nationwide. Each scholarship for high school and university students is worth VND16.2 million (VND1.8 million/month) and VND24 million (VND2.4 million/month) per year, respectively.
Male student Do Nguyen Hoang Anh from Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, a fresher at Ho Chi Minh city Medicine and Pharmacy University shared: “My father died in 2009. My 60-year-old mother has to sell lottery tickets on street. Now my family owns a big debt from bank for living expense and studying fee. This scholarship will not only help me to share challenges on my mother’s shoulder, but also create a chance for me to focus on studying to become a professional doctor, thus contributing to society as my dream”.
This year’s awardees will have chance to receive scholarships in the following years until they graduate from high school or university unless demonstrating their good records.
On this occasion, they also visited some Hanoi’s historical sites and a processing line of color laser printers at Canon’s factory as well.
