Germany shares expertise in industrial wastewater treatment
Vietnamese and German experts gathered at a seminar in Hanoi on October 20 to exchange experiences in industrial wastewater treatment.
Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Bui Cach Tuyen stressed that while Vietnam’s industrialisation and modernisation have resulted in significant development, the process has also created major environmental challenges.
The seminar was co-organised by the MoNRE and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMU) for Vietnam to study the experiences of Germany in industrial wastewater management and treatment, particularly in industrial parks, he concluded.
Sharing the same view, BMU State Secretary Gunther Adler said that the seminar sought to create a joint legal framework between the two countries in water use for sustainable development.
He also affirmed that Germany hopes for long-term co-operation with Vietnam, not only through Governments and State level agencies, but also among enterprises in the two countries.
He noted that while water is vital to life and development, rapid industrialisation has generated huge amounts of industrial wastewater.
Thorough treatment of the water requires investment in industrial equipment and human resources and infrastructure, he said.
At the seminar, German and Vietnamese experts discussed legal documents and decrees as well as their approaches on substances hazardous to water and how to handle it in line with international standards.
