Vietnam attends ITU plenipotentiary conference
Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Le Nam Thang is participating in the 19th Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in Busan in the Republic of Korea.
Speaking at the opening session on October 20, Thang reported on the rapid development of Vietnam’s telecommunications sector, which is reflected in the application of new technologies and the improved legal framework.
He also reiterated the country’s dedication to continue contributing to ITU operations in the future.
On October 19, Thang took part in the ITU Ministerial Meeting on Information and Communications Technology (ICT), during which participants adopted the Busan Declaration.
The declaration showed ITU member countries’ consensus on the future role of ICT in sustainable development. They pledged to share experiences and intensify co-operation in an effort to utilise information technology to meet the demands of the world’s population.
The ITU comprises 193 member states, including Vietnam. A plenary session is held every four years to review the implementation of the action plan for the previous term and devise policies and strategies for the next term.
This year’s plenary session takes place from October 20 to November 7.
