Construction of green technology zone begins
Construction of a US$500 million environmental technology zone was kicked off at a ceremony held in Thu Thua district, the southern province of Long An on November 9.
The zone will cover 1,760ha, and will use advanced waste treatment technology to treat up to 40,000 tonnes of waste per day from provinces and cities in the southern key economic zone.
The project comprises of several key components, including a port for receiving waste, a hi-tech treatment zone, a compost processing plant, a waste sludge and sewage treatment plant, a multi-functional sorting and recycling plant, and facilities to treat greenhouse gases.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Cao Lai Quang praised Vietnam Waste Solutions Inc. for developing and investing in environmental protection projects.
The project in Long An province is significant to the southern key economic zone for sustainable development and environmental safety, contributing to realising the national strategy for integrated management of solid waste until 2025 and plans towards 2050, Quang said.
