Vietnam has one of the highest online audience in Southeast Asia

“Vietnam is among top Southeast Asian countries with the highest Internet users, it is much more likely to access Multimedia, movies and music,” said a Ericsson representative in a seminar titled “Vietnam Innovative Media” on November 27th in Ho Chi Minh city.

The seminar, co-hosted by the Embassy of Sweden and the Ministry of Information and Communications, is part of activities to celebrate the 45th anniversary of Vietnam and Sweden.

According to the Ericsson representative, the media industry is still undergoing dramatic changes. Media connects commerce with audiences, relates world events to households, creates celebrity and defines the cutting-edges. Access to smartphones and tablets has affected not just consumption patterns, but also the ability to participate in content creation.

Ericsson has released its vision for media in 2020, in which every players need an agile strategy to survive in the media industry of USD750 billion serving over 8 billion connected mobile broadband subscribers and over 50 billion connected devices all plugged into a global IP network with 15 billion connected devices that are video enabled.

At the seminar, Jan Wassenius, President of Ericsson Vietnam and Myanmar, said " In the context that many converging factors drive the global growth of TV and Media from now to 2020, Vietnamese TV and media players should embrace OTT and make the internet deliver for you. They should bundle the consumer services via smarter aggregation of content which will drive the consumer personalization with the help of recommendation social media and advertising."

Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam, Camilla Mellander, stresed “When the Internet economy comes to 3G connectivity, Vietnam is one of the most developed countries in ASEAN. With mobility, broadband and cloud services now spreading rapidly around the planet, we are seeing the Networked Society coming to life in Vietnam and globally”.
