The Ministry of Information and Communications has recently issued a circular on the management of telephone area codes.

Under the new regulation, set to take effect this March, fixed telephone area codes of centrally-run cities will be adjusted. Telephone area code No. 4 of Hanoi will be changed to 24, Ho Chi Minh City from 8 to 28, Da Nang from 511 to 236, Hai Phong from 31 to 225, and Can Tho from 710 to 292.

In addition, the code of telephone subscribers under the fixed ground telecommunication network will have a length of seven to eight digits, while the numbers of subscribers of fixed satellite telecommunication networks will be seven digits in length and the code for mobile phone subscribers will have seven digits.

For exclusive telecommunications networks of the Party and the State agencies, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Public Security, subscriber numbers may have a length of five to seven digits depending on the size of each network and each application stage.

Emergency service numbers are specified with three digits, including No. 112 for search and rescue, 113 to call the police service, 114 for the fire service, and 115 to call for medical emergencies.
