The repair of the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) undersea cable, which was broken on January 5, will be completed on January 23, according to the AAG operator.

The breakdown of the cable slowed down Internet connection between Vietnam and other countries, FPT Corporation said, adding that it is transmitting Internet capacity through mainland cables to reduce negative effects on its customers.

Last year, the undersea cable was discovered to be broken three times in February, July and September, decreasing international Internet capacity by 40% to 70%.

The 20,000km undersea cable, which became operational in 2009, connects the Southeast Asian region directly to the US.
