Deputy PM Dam urges improving learning environment for young people

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam has suggested improving learning conditions, especially in foreign languages, to create a better learning environment for young people.

Dam was speaking during the 25th plenary session of the National Committee on Youth of Vietnam (NCYV) on February 9, reviewing the committee’s activities in 2014 and devising plans for 2015.

Reports at the meeting showed that, over the last year, the NCYV actively promoted inter-agency co-ordination mechanisms in building policies and legislation targeting the youth and organising youth exchanges and diplomatic activities. Several schemes and policies recorded positive results, including the ‘Strengthening legal education for teenagers during 2011 - 2015 period’ project, a project on supporting the youth in vocational training in 2008 - 2015, and recruiting 600 young intellectuals volunteering to participate in local socio-economic development in rural and mountainous areas.

Specifically, nearly 40,000 Youth Union officials have been given vocational training and job placement counseling; over 36,000 youngsters have received training on starting a business; and 500 young intellectuals have been recruited to participate in local socio-development plans in rural and mountainous areas for 2013-2020 period.

Speaking the event, the deputy PM praised efforts by the NCYV in actively collaborating with relevant authorities to implement the set plans. He said that, in addition to implementation of common policies, the committee should facilitate deployment of policies and laws that directly benefit the youth.

Deputy PM Dam asked the NCYV to take the lead in creating breakthroughs in strengthening legal education and creating a good learning environment for young people, thereby improving the quality of human resources and maximising the strengths of a young workforce during the demographic dividend period for national socio-economic development.

The committee should actively co-ordinate with related authorities for construction of specific action plans to improve the quality of training in vocational schools; connect job centres with students, and encourage co-operation with businesses to effectively operate vocational training centres.

He also also suggested the committee carry out IT and scientific and technical universalisation programmes, especially targeting young people in rural and mountainous areas.
