First Vietnamese female academician receives notable awards from Russian academy

Academician, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, Chairman cum General Director Advance International Joint Stock Company, has been honoured with two notable awards from Russia’s International Academy of Systems Studies (IASS) for her outstanding achievements in the 2001- 2014 period.

The award ceremony was held in Hanoi on February 11 by the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Vietnam Women's Union Central Committee, presenting Dr. Nhan the IASS’s Vernadsky Star and the Award for the academician with the most outstanding achievements in the 2001- 2014 period.

Successfully bringing 32 advanced technologies around the world into use in Vietnam and creating tremendous value to the community, Dr. Nhan is the first woman from Vietnam and Asia to be honoured with the IASS award.

The IASS award for prominent academician is the highest award of the academy, awarded every ten years to those who have made outstanding achievements and contributions in the field of science worldwide. Meanwhile, the Vernadsky Star Award is for outstanding scientists in all fields.

Over the past ten years, Dr. Nhan and her colleagues have researched the current situation in Vietnam to launch initiatives and apply advanced technologies in many fields such as wastewater treatment, cleaning up contaminated agricultural land, and improving the quality of IT training and applications.

Giving his comments on Dr. Nhan’s contributions, Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan said that Dr. Nhan is an example for Vietnamese entrepreneurs and those working in science and technology in Vietnam to follow. This was a shared honour for all Vietnamese, vividly demonstrating the relationship between Vietnam and Russia, Quan added.
