Robocon Vietnam begins final round

The final round of the 2015 Robocon Vietnam contest kicked off in the Mekong Delta city of Can Tho on May 12, drawing 32 teams from universities and junior colleges nationwide to compete.

Themed “Robominton: Badminton Robo-Game”, the event is highly challenging in both technology and competition.

Pham Phi Thuong, Deputy Head of Robocon 2015’s organising board, said this year’s contest anticipates a number of breakthroughs in scientific application.

Reigning champion Lac Hong University has three teams entering the final round, widely considered as strong contenders.

The teams from the Hanoi Junior College of Electronics and Refrigeration, the Hanoi Electromechanical and Food Technology Vocational Training College, and the Hanoi Electromechanical Vocational Training College have also proved to be worthy opponents, he noted, adding that it is the first time they have competed at a Robocon contest.

The 2015 Robocon Vietnam is the 14th of its kind to be held in the country. The winner will receive VND50 million (US$2,380) in cash and join the Asia-Pacific Robot Contest (ABU Robocon) slated for August 21-25 in Indonesia.
