Vietnam wins two gold medals at Asian Physics Olympiad

Vietnam has won two gold medals as a result of the efforts by Vu Thanh Trung and Nguyen Ngoc Khanh – twelfth graders from Hanoi’s Amsterdam High School and Nghe An province’s Phan Boi Chau High School respectively – at the 16th Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO), held from May 3 to 9 in Hangzhou, China.

As announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on May 9, all eight members of the Vietnamese student team won prizes including two golds, three silvers, one bronze and two certificates of merit (consolation).

Silver medalists included Nguyen Cong Thanh from Hai Phong city’s Tran Phu High School, Dinh Thi Huong Thao from Nam Dinh province’s Le Hong Phong High School, and Nguyen Quang Nam from the high school for gifted students under the Hanoi University of Education.

The sole bronze medal was won by Le Xuan Phuc from the University of Natural Science’s High School for Gifted Students under the Vietnam National University-Hanoi, while Pham Ngoc Dung of Hanoi’s Amsterdam High School and Tran Quang Huy from Yen Bai province’s Nguyen Tat Thanh High School received certificates of merit from the organising board.

The Ministry of Education and Training will welcome back the Vietnamese physics team at Noi Bai International Airport on May 11 and present awards to all of the prize winners.
