The first phase of the aptitude tests will take place over four days in 21 test sites throughout the country, with two to eight sessions held daily. The second phase is scheduled for early August.

According to VNU officials, around 72.4 % of more than 43,300 registered candidates chose to sit their tests at 11 sites in Hanoi.

VNU is the only university in Vietnam in 2015 to hold a separate exam from the national high school exam, which is administered by the Ministry of Education and Training and serves two purposes of graduation certification and university enrolment.

Under the VNU’s standardised aptitude test, students are given 195 minutes to answer 100 compulsory and 40 elective questions throughout the computer-based test, with 70% of the questions derived from curriculum of the 12th grade, 20% from the 11th grade and 10% from the 10th grade.

Compulsory questions include two sections, with 50 questions each for maths, Vietnamese language and Vietnamese literature. For the elective module, students can choose a set of questions about natural sciences (physics, chemistry and biology) or social sciences (history, geography and civic education).

Students seeking admission to VNU’s University of Languages and International Studies will have to take a foreign language test, in addition to the standard aptitude test.

Before commencing the tests on May 30, VNU had prepared 7,500 computers in 196 rooms for the standard aptitude test and 436 rooms for the foreign language test.
