Deputy PM Dam made the statement at the ground-breaking ceremony of the space science complex in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province on July 20.
He spoke highly of the contributions of Professor Tran Thanh Van, who chairs the ‘Meeting Vietnam’ Organisation, and local and international scientists in initiating and realising the project on building the space science complex.
The complex, which comprises a planetarium, a science museum and an observatory covering four hectares with a total investment of over VND171.1 billion (US$7.8 million), is scheduled to be completed in 2017.
According to Professor Van, this is the first public space science complex in Vietnam, focusing on bringing science to the public and nourishing a love for science among people, especially the young. It will serve both scientific education and developing scientific tourism aimed at children, students and tourists.
The complex will bring Quy Nhon city a facelift with an urban area dedicated to scientists, affirming the commitment of the Party and State to scientific studies, said Ho Quoc Dung, Chairman of the Binh Dinh provincial People’s Committee.
Together with the ground-breaking ceremony, the ‘Meeting Vietnam’ Organisation convened an international scientific conference themed “Planetary Systems: A Synergistic View”, attracting 70 famous local and international scientists. The conference will last until July 25.
