Vietnam wins gold medals at International Physics Olympiad

Five Vietnamese students have gained outstanding achievements, with three gold and two silver medals, at the 46th International Physics Olympiad which was held from July 5 to 12 in Mumbai, India.

Gold medal winners include 12th graders; Vu Thanh Trung Nam from Hanoi – Amsterdam gifted high school and Nguyen Cong Thanh from Tran Phu gifted high school in Hai Phong, along with Dinh Thi Huong Thao, who is currently studying in the 11th grade at Nam Dinh province’s Le Hong Phong gifted high school.

Most notably, Huong Thao was presented with an award for the highest achieving female contestant.

Meanwhile, two silver medals went to 12th grader Nguyen Ngoc Khanh from Phan Boi Chau Gifted High School in Nghe An, and Nguyen Quang Nam, an 11th grader attending the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based National University of Education.

The achievements of the five outstanding students helped Vietnam surpass Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand to place third in the overall ranking, behind only China and Taiwan (China).

Earlier, eight Vietnamese students made a great impression on international friends, securing two gold medals as well as three silver and one bronze, in addition to two certificates of merit (consolation) at the Asian Physics Olympiad which was held from May 3 to 9 in Hangzhou, China.
