The winners are Vu Pham Hien Anh from Nguyen Sieu School and Pham Ngo Hoang Lan Elizabeth from Wellspring Bilingual School, who both achieved a score of 895/900 on the standard TOEFL Primary and Junior tests.

This is the highest level in the language proficiency framework for primary students established by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training.

In addition to the two top prizes, the organisers awarded two second prizes and six third prizes to students from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and the central province of Thua Thien-Hue.

According to IIG Vietnam, the number of contestants for the 2014-2015 academic year rose 65.7% to more than 30,000 students from 954 primary schools throughout the country, in which nearly half were from Ho Chi Minh City.

After two rounds, 343 contestants were qualified for the finals with their average result reaching 786/900, which experts said reflects improvement in the teaching and learning of English at primary schools in Vietnam.
