World physicists talk universe's ancient light in Quy Nhon

Sixty scientists from 19 countries are gathering in the central city of Quy Nhon for a conference which kicked off on August 17 to talk about a kind of light created at the beginning of the universe.

The conference, which lasts until August 22, is part of the annual Rencontres du Vietnam programme, which features a series of events to promote exchanges between Vietnamese scientists and their colleagues in the west, while bringing science to the larger public.

During the six-day conference on cosmic microwave background (CMB) as the light is known, physicists will give presentations on the formation of the universe, the Big Bang theory and research on CMB, the universe’s oldest light.

This year’s conference sees the attendance of American astrophysicist George Smoot, who won the Nobel Prize in 2006 with John Mather for the discovery of the blackbody form and anisotropy of the cosmic microwave background radiation.

On the sidelines of the conference, there will be meetings between physicists and young Vietnamese talents, students and science lovers on astrophysics.
